What is the cap?
Caps are a type of hat. Specifically, caps are hats that do not have a brim around the crown, and whose crowns are shallow enough to fit closely against the skull.
Others here claim that caps will always have a peak or visor, but while that’s true of baseball and golf caps, there are plenty of caps that don’t have a visor or a brim. For example the side cap (garrison cap, flight cap, wedge cap, or field service cap) has no visor, neither does a skull cap, and sailor’s caps exist in both visored and visorless styles, depending on the region of origin.
What is the difference between hats and caps?
Hats are different from caps, thus being more elaborate. Hats have a high crown and/or a brim. They are larger than caps, in other words.
Caps have crowns that fit a bit closer than hats and they have a visor. They are generally used for warmth and when they have visors, they are used to block the UV rays from the sun.
